It Takes a Village to Be You

Life, it turns out, is a masterpiece. It is a cosmic combination of seemingly infinite parts that make so much more than their sum. 

Did you know that your body is made up of between 26 to 38 trillion cells, all working together to be you? Talk about teamwork! And that's saying nothing about the uncountable number of particles and atoms and molecules that make up one single cell in that grand orchestra that is your body. 

But what about your mind? Well, each person has has approximately 86 billion neurons in their brain, with each one having its own role in storing our memories, beliefs, ideas, and attitudes. The human brain is a miraculous concerto of independent cells that all work together to help us make sense of this world around us. 

So, it turns out that it really does take a village--the village of our mind, with all its independent parts--to make us... well, us! We are more than the sum of our parts, but we are also subject to the whims of those parts if they run into challenges or are pressed into roles that they aren't suited for. For example, my mind may not be able to find harmony if I have a part of me that feels unseen or unheard, and holds me back because it believes I am going to fail. Until I take time to understand and bring healing to the parts of me that are having a hard time, I won't be able to realize my full potential. 

This is what we will begin to unpack in my upcoming class, Spiritual Cartography, where you will have an opportunity to begin mapping out the parts of your own mind. By having a clear map of how all the various parts of our mind function and relate to one another, we can better understand why we do the things we do, and invite the loving inner Spirit within us all to share its healing wisdom with any parts that are asking for healing.
