Reading as Spiritual Practice

Spiritual Study is one of the five spiritual practices here at the Center. But did you know that it isn't reserved simply for spiritual books?

I believe that reading is one of the most amazing, joyful, and enlightening spiritual practices around. Any reading--whether it is a self-help book or classical literature or a cozy mystery or, my favorite, science fiction and fantasy. Heck, even a great cookbook can bring about a spiritual experience!

At its core, a really good book--no matter the genre--does something powerful within our mind. It sparks our imagination. And imagination is such a vital tool as we cultivate more compassion, love, and joy in our lives.

That's why I'm really looking forward to our Sharing Our Books event tomorrow, where you can come and peruse all the books our community has generously donated. We have every genre you could imagine. And best of all, you don't have to bring any books to partake; you can take as many books home with you as you like!

I'm also looking forward to Dr. Edward's message because I'm curious what he will say, and how that will inform what I am talking about next weekend, February 26. Perhaps he will talk about all these books, too?

Come join us for Dr. Edward's message at 9am or 11am, grab a book or three between the two services, and see how inspiration through the spiritual practice of reading changes your life for the better.
